Let me lay it out for you.  You have a website and are using it or want to use it as a vehicle to help drive your business.  For some, your website may not be just a marketing tool, it may be your business.  It doesn’t matter if you have a blog, an ecommerce store, you promote affiliate products, sell on Amazon or even have an eBay store.  You need traffic if you want to convert your hard work into cash.  What drives traffic?  Aside from paid advertising, it is some form of content.  Content is king and it all starts with that first article.

Now granted, not every piece that you write is specifically for the tactic of article marketing but I consider everything that I write an article.  Therefore, all of my content can be traced back to my article marketing strategy.  It all starts with a 250 – 400 word document that can end up on my blog, a Squidoo lens, as a new report or even a new ebook.  But I have trained myself to write articles and that is what fuels my business.

That’s not to say that paid advertising does not have it’s place.  It certainly does but paid advertising is not always an option for everyone.  I find this to be especially true for new online marketers and a lot of offline businesses.

But we all know that traffic makes our businesses tick.  I used to rely solely on paid advertising, eBay customers and SEO for my business.  Then I realized the multiple benefits of content generation or article writing.  And I don’t care if you write the stuff yourself or not, it is still a key component of any well rounded traffic generation strategy.

I see article marketing as having many benefits to your business and that’s why having a solid article marketing strategy is so important:

  • Articles submitted to article sites can get ranked very quickly and can easily show up on the first two pages of Google
  • Articles posted on other peoples blogs, article directories and virtually any Web 2.0 site can create back links to your main or money site
  • Articles can help to establish you as an authority in your niche

Now keep in mind, the only way that article marketing will work for you, is if your content is providing value to your target audience.  You don’t want to repost someone elses PLR material and you can’t afford to write in a sloppy fashion.  You need some quality content to drive quality traffic and to be seen as someone that is creating value for your followers.
