Let’s face it, if you have a solid article marketing strategy you are going to have to write A LOT of articles. The good thing is that it’s free! The bad thing is that it takes a lot of people a lot of time to write even one article let alone ten articles.
Simply stated, if you have not written any articles yet or you tend to get caught up spending 15-20 minutes or more writing one article, then this is for you.
Listen carefully, you first have to determine why you are writing the article. You aren’t trying to write a literary masterpiece here. There is always some sort of action that you want your reader to take (or a back link that you are trying to build) and merely reading your article and walking away with a warm and fuzzy feeling thinking “Damn, that was a good article!” is not your objective.
So why do you spend so much time writing your articles?
Quite frankly, the bulk of your time needs to be sent in your keyword research. Once you have that nailed done you need to know where you are going to post your article. Then, it is finally time to get writing.
We’re on the same page here right?
Okay, so what I’m going to do next is give you a few methods for writing your 250-300 word articles that should make your article writing a lot easier.
Let’s say that we have built a review site about cameras. We want to write several articles about specific cameras. Each article will be about one specific model.
The first thing you’re going to do is to go to Amazon and look up the camera. Read the product description and all of the user reviews. THink you know a little about this camera by now? Good! Next, we are going to begin to structure
this article.
- Every article begins with a title. Since it has to be keyword optimized it usually is not as catchy as a headline so I try to ask a question or list “3 Killer Features of the XX Camera that You Cannot Afford to Live Without!”
- Intro paragraph: Next you need three to four sentences intriducing the problems the product solves for the reader or three features/benefits they get from the product. You are just introducing them here. This is your teaser.
- Article body: I usually end up with 3 or four paragraphs. Each one touching on my three to four main points from my intro paragraph. I never give too much information here because the real information should be through the link they click. If you are just building back links you should fly through this section and not worry about any of the details.
- Closing paragraph: Rewrite your three to four main points here. You are just restating. It’s the classic tell them what you are going to tell them, tell them and then tell them what you just told them.
- Resource box: Your final sentence or twois your call to action. I have read several theories on the best calls to action. Make sure that you have your keyword as your anchor text for your outgoing link here. I also have a link here pointing to a Squidoo page, my sites homepage, another article, etc…
It’s that simple! It should never take you more than ten minutes or so to write yourself an article! Next time we will talk about what you do with this article once you have it!
