In my last post I talked about the importance of maintaining desirable and believable work and business goals.  I talked about the importance of balancing these goals that represent two aspects of your life:  your internet business plan and your life plan.

I hope that you took some action on the post and took some time to think about and set your goals for 2009.  Now, I want to challenge your commitment to achieving these goals!

If you are anything like me, you set some aggressive goals for yourself and you work hard to achieve these goals.  I’m also going to guess, that if you’re anything like me, you will not achieve both of these goals and therefore have not achieve living your ideal life!  You have the look within yourself and ask “Why haven’t you achieved these goals already?”  And if you have achieved some of the goals that you set for yourself, but you are not already living your ideal life, I have to ask “Why not?”

How often do you feel like you’re spinning your wheels and getting nowhere?  How often have you actually sat down and thought about what is stopping you from making the progress that you think you were working towards every day?  Have you really put some thought into that?  I know I didn’t until somebody taught me how.  And I’m going to share a little bit of that with you today.

The first thing that I think you need to do is get a pen and some paper and really think about the things that are holding you back from achieving your ideal life.  What are the obstacles that stand in your way?  I know one of the most identifiable ones for me was getting caught up in the Internet marketing flavor of the month.  I think that most of us suffer from information overload and unless somebody teaches us how to gain control of that aspect of our lives we can get wholly consumed in all of the information being thrown at us every single day.  It can be our ultimate demise!  Some other people suffer from procrastination, a lack of focus, fear of taking the next step and the fear of failure.  I could go on and on.  We each have our own unique obstacles.  Now is the time to take action and overcome them!
These are the things that I want you to think about today.  I’m challenging you to surface your obstacles and write them out on that paper that you grabbed earlier.

I am going to leave you with this exercise and a list of a few of the obstacles that I uncovered.  I think this will help get you started:

1.    My business was not generating any income
2.    I had a website and I did not have a plan for how that website would generate income
3.    I did not have my own product
4.    I was not technically savvy
5.    I did not have a plan in place
6.    I did not have a goal to work towards
7.    I did not have a quiet place to work and focus
8.    I was not disciplined about setting aside time to work on my business
9.    I was not organized
10.    I did not have a good project or planning tool
11.    I let other activities take precedence over my planned business time
12.    I did not devote time to myself
13.    I did not devote time to my family

I was drowning in information overload and I was not taking any valuable actions to help me move towards my goals.  Put some time into this exercise and see what you come up with.  Lay it all out on the table.  It will fill you with a sense of relief.  We’ll pick up here next time and I hope that I have left you with a little something to ponder for the next few days until we talk again.
