denialWOW, is all I can say.  I work as an Executive for a $100 million dollar small business that supplies product to all major retailers in the US.  I came to this company a few years ago in hopes of getting out of the corporate rat race and thinking that a family owned small business would be a great place to be.

Not to say that I do not love what I do (most of the time), but the corporate BS is still here.  Still within these walls I came to as an escape from it all.  When I got here the corporate thing was not in play as much as it is today.

But, we have grown nearly 100% in the past few years and we have gone out seeking the best people we could find to round out our team as we grew.  We looked high and low, within our industry and outside of our industry.  Now with a little under 150 office employees, the corporate BS has begun to run rampant.

You see, it is not in the company culture to have this BS around, but it came with a lot of the “talent” that we brought in.  A lof of self interests, a lot of work and decisions within silos, a lot of ego at play and a lot of ignorance (and not intentional I might add) from the leaders of the company.

Message is, if you have a successful small business and you want to keep your team happy, please beware of what comes along with your top “talent”.  Not to say the BS can be avoided but it needs to be identified and controlled if you want to remain a great place to work!

Remember to put your employess first, listen and respond to their needs.  It’s not always your “stars” that are pointing you in the right direction.  And, sometimes, your “stars” are your problem!
